Engine Room

Info: part of the engine room of “Hellas Liberty” ship, a modern floating museum at port of Piraeus. Term “Liberty” used for a special type of cargo ships built in USA in very large numbers during the Second World War and remained in active service for many years after it. After the end of the war 100 such Liberty ships were granted from USA to Greece in Greek shipowners to rise the destroyed Greek Shipping. “Hellas Liberty” (formerly named “Arthur M. Huddell”) is one of the three Liberty ships survived worldwide. The other two Liberty ships are in USA ; the “SS John W. Brown” located in Baltimore and the “SS Jeremiah O’Brien” in San Francisco.
